The Isle of Arran walk 2016 was a great success. promoting the awareness of our charity and in the process we raised £10,000
The week got off to a great start with The Smile of Arran stall at the Arran Highland Games on Saturday 6th August. The public supported our team really well and we even got to march behind 5 pipe bands, starting us off on our walk.
On Sunday 7th August 2016 21 walkers embarked on their 66 Mile trek around the Isle of Arran.
Our first walk took us round the beautiful shore line from Brodick to Whiting Bay, 12 miles in total. The weather was very kind to us to start off with. Lots of hills to climb up and down. Half way round we visited the Lamlash Golf Club. Last year we were greeted by the members which included a lovely man known as ‘Big Hutch’. It was great to see he was there waiting for us again, along with lots of other members. Big Hutch went on to help raise over £500 that evening at their awards night.
With the first day over we were all ready for the rest of the week. The rain didn’t stop us on our tracks. Along with the stunning views of Arran’s coast line, we were kept going by the team spirit which never left us. We were reminded every day that this was all a walk in Arran’s memory. He inspires us to help others and that was our driving force every day, even when our blisters were on fire!!!!!
Our thanks go out to all of our walkers who over came blood, sweat, tears, laughter and lots of fundraising. We would also like to thank our sponsors whom without them, we would never have been able to achieve raising the amount we did.
We look forward to returning to the Isle of Arran for ,The Smile of Arran Walk 2017
